Description

An Incorrect Privilege Assignment vulnerability in Docker Hub's account-to-organization conversion feature allowed an authenticated attacker to reassign a personal access token (PAT) they controlled to another Docker Hub user without rotating or revoking the token secret. The unchanged PAT then authenticated to the registry as the recipient and could pull, push, or delete images, within its scopes, in repositories accessible to that user, including organization repositories.

Technical Analysis

Docker Hub disclosed a critical security flaw (CVE-2026-105445) that permits attackers to use a personal access token to access container repositories belonging to other users. This vulnerability could allow attackers to impersonate legitimate users and modify container images, potentially compromising the integrity of containerized applications. No detailed technical information or affected versions were provided in the source data.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized access to container repositories on Docker Hub, enabling attackers to impersonate legitimate users and tamper with container images. This could lead to the distribution of malicious or altered container images, undermining trust and security in container deployments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since Docker Hub is not a cloud service in this context, monitor official Docker communications for updates and apply any provided patches or security updates promptly.
