Technical Analysis

OpenClaw before version 2026.5.18 has a vulnerability classified as CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) in its QQBot native approval buttons. The vulnerability permits non-approver users to bypass configured approver identity checks and approve pending exec or plugin requests without proper authorization. This represents an authorization bypass that could lead to unauthorized actions being approved within the system. The advisory is a duplicate and has been withdrawn, but the original vulnerability affects all versions prior to 2026.5.18.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized users with limited privileges to approve execution or plugin requests that should require higher-level authorization. This could lead to unauthorized code execution or plugin activation, potentially compromising system integrity or security. The severity is high due to the potential for privilege escalation and unauthorized approvals.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no patch links are provided and the advisory is withdrawn as a duplicate, users should refer to the original advisory GHSA-mgq6-vr84-7m2j for remediation steps. Until a fix is applied, restrict access to approval functions to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized approval actions.
