A patch is available and fixed the issue in Esphome version 2026.7.0. Users should upgrade to version 2026.7.0 or later to resolve this vulnerability. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
AnyIO versions 4.14.0 used in Esphome between 2026.6.0 and before 2026.7.0 contain a vulnerability where the extra_groups argument in run_process() and open_process() is mishandled. This causes child processes to retain parent supplementary groups incorrectly, impacting POSIX privilege dropping. The issue is fixed in version 2026.7.0.
