Until a fix is available, applications should implement input validation and resource limits on ASN.1 decoding to mitigate CPU exhaustion risks. Avoid decoding untrusted ASN.1 inputs without such controls.

Description

pyasn1 versions 0.6.4 and earlier contain a quadratic-time denial of service vulnerability in the decoding of constructed OCTET STRINGs and indefinite-length ANY types. This flaw causes excessive CPU usage when decoding ASN.1 inputs with many fragments, potentially leading to CPU exhaustion. The vulnerability affects BER and CER decoding paths and certain non-standard DER decoding scenarios. No confidentiality or integrity impact is reported. The issue requires attacker-controlled ASN.1 input to the decoder without sufficient input or resource limits.
