AI-suggested
A fix is available in GitPython version 4.0.4_6. Users should upgrade to this version or later. The vendor recommends either adopting a strict allowlist of safe options for Repo.archive() or extending the denylist to include --add-file and --add-virtual-file options, blocking any option that takes a filesystem path or URL. Until patched, avoid passing untrusted input to Repo.archive() options.
Description
GitPython's Repo.archive() method uses a denylist to block unsafe git archive options that could lead to arbitrary command execution or file writes. However, this denylist is incomplete and omits the --add-file and --add-virtual-file options, which allow an attacker to read arbitrary files from the filesystem and inject attacker-controlled content into archives. This flaw enables arbitrary file read at the privileges of the process using GitPython. A fix is available in version 4.0.4_6.
