AI-suggested

A patch is available in GitPython version 2.16.0_14 that fixes this vulnerability by ensuring _option_candidates emits value-derived candidates regardless of split_single_char_options and improving the unsafe option guard. Users should upgrade to this fixed version. Until patched, avoid passing user-controlled kwargs with split_single_char_options=False and single-character keys to guarded GitPython methods.

Description

GitPython versions up to 3.1.57 contain a vulnerability where the unsafe git option guard can be bypassed by using the parameter split_single_char_options=False combined with a single-character keyword argument. This bypass allows arbitrary OS command execution via the git --upload-pack option, despite the default safety setting. The flaw is due to incomplete validation of joined short-option tokens, enabling command injection in methods like clone, fetch, and push.
