Avoid using untrusted MicroDVD (.sub) subtitle files and disable automatic subtitle loading if the media player supports this feature. Fixed versions are available starting from gst-plugins-base 1.28.2. Users should upgrade to this or later versions to remediate the vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in GStreamer's gst-plugins-base MicroDVD subtitle parser allows a specially crafted subtitle file to cause a NULL pointer dereference, leading to a crash of the media player process. This denial of service occurs when a user opens or plays media with a malformed MicroDVD (.sub) subtitle file. The issue requires user interaction and does not impact confidentiality or integrity.
