Administrators should lock or delete the previous user's local authd account when the corresponding identity provider account is removed to prevent new users from inheriting local UIDs and home directories. A fix is available in authd versions after 0.7.1; upgrading to a fixed version is recommended. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data, so verify with the vendor advisory for the latest remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in authd before version 0.7.1 allows a new user to inherit the local UID and home directory of a previous user if the identity provider reassigns an email address used as the username. This occurs because the user identity matching falls back to username matching without rejecting conflicting provider IDs. As a result, the new user can access and modify files, including sensitive credentials, belonging to the previous user. Administrators should mitigate this by locking or deleting the previous user's local authd account when the corresponding identity provider account is removed.
