Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's libceph component related to the Ceph messenger v2 protocol banner parsing has been resolved. The issue occurs when a client sends a banner with a payload length of 0, causing the kernel to set up a zero-length socket read, violating an internal state machine invariant and triggering a kernel warning. The protocol expects the banner payload to be at least 16 bytes, containing two 64-bit integers. The fix involves validating the payload length to reject values smaller than 16 bytes, preventing the zero-length read and aborting the connection with a protocol error.
