Description

Google mcp-toolbox versions v1.3.0 and v1.4.0 contain an incorrect authorization vulnerability in the direct HTTP API tool invocation endpoint. This flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker to invoke tools that should be protected by the scopeRequired feature by sending requests through legacy HTTP endpoints when the --enable-api flag is enabled. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 9.8, indicating critical impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-14537 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Google mcp-toolbox versions v1.3.0 and v1.4.0. The issue arises because the direct HTTP API tool invocation endpoint does not properly enforce authorization checks when the --enable-api flag is active. Attackers can exploit this by sending tool invocation requests through legacy HTTP endpoints, bypassing the scopeRequired protection and invoking tools without authentication. This vulnerability is classified under CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization).

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated attackers to invoke protected tools, potentially leading to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system. The CVSS score of 9.8 reflects the critical nature of this vulnerability, with network attack vector, no required privileges or user interaction, and high impact on all security properties.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, it is recommended to disable the --enable-api flag or restrict access to the legacy HTTP endpoints to trusted users only to prevent unauthorized tool invocation.
