AI-suggested

A fix is available in joserfc version 0.26.1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to ensure the size guard validates input length before splitting and allocating memory. No additional mitigations are required once patched.

Description

joserfc versions from 0.15.0 up to but not including 0.26.1 have a vulnerability in their compact JWS size guard. The library allocates attacker-controlled segments by splitting the input bytes before validating their size, leading to additional memory allocation of roughly the full payload size before rejecting oversized inputs. This undermines the allocation-limiting purpose of the size guard and can cause increased memory usage or potential memory exhaustion. The issue is fixed in version 0.26.1.
