AI-suggested
The vulnerability is due to an incomplete fix in authlib's key import logic. Until an official fix is released, users should avoid passing PEM or certificate keys with leading whitespace, newlines, BOMs, or comments to jwt.decode(). Additionally, callers should avoid using the documented jwt object that does not allow restricting algorithms and instead explicitly specify allowed algorithms to exclude symmetric HS* algorithms when verifying asymmetric signatures. Monitor the vendor advisory for updates and apply patches once available.
Description
A vulnerability in the kimi-cli product's use of authlib allows an attacker to forge HMAC-signed JWT tokens by exploiting an incomplete fix in the key import validation. The flaw arises because the check preventing asymmetric public keys from being used as HMAC secrets only matches keys starting exactly at byte 0, while the loader accepts keys with leading whitespace or comments. This discrepancy allows an attacker with only the issuer's public key to craft HS256 tokens with arbitrary claims that are accepted as authentic. The issue affects versions >=0.40 and was confirmed in authlib 1.8.0 and main branch as of August 2026.
