Description

Leantime version 3.6.2 contains an open redirect vulnerability in its Login controller. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate the redirectUrl POST parameter to redirect authenticated users to arbitrary external websites. The vulnerability bypasses FILTER_SANITIZE_URL validation, enabling attackers to craft malicious login URLs that redirect victims to attacker-controlled sites, potentially facilitating phishing or credential theft.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Leantime 3.6.2 is an open redirect issue (CWE-601) located in the Login controller. Attackers can exploit this by tampering with the redirectUrl POST parameter, which is insufficiently sanitized despite FILTER_SANITIZE_URL usage. This allows redirection of authenticated users to arbitrary external URLs controlled by attackers. The vulnerability does not require authentication or privileges to exploit and involves user interaction (UI). There is no indication of known exploits in the wild or a vendor patch at this time.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to users being redirected to malicious external sites, increasing the risk of phishing attacks or credential theft. The vulnerability affects user trust and may facilitate social engineering attacks but does not directly compromise the Leantime system itself.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should be cautious of unexpected redirects after login and administrators should monitor for suspicious login URLs. No official fix or temporary workaround has been provided in the available data.
