Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49219 is a vulnerability in Magick.NET-Q16-AnyCPU where improper parsing of filenames allows an attacker with local privileges to bypass security policies and read files that should be disallowed. This is achieved by leveraging symbolic links to access restricted files. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-200 (Information Exposure), CWE-22 (Path Traversal), CWE-78 (OS Command Injection), and CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization). It affects versions prior to 14.14.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access and low privileges can exploit this vulnerability to read sensitive files that are protected by security policies, potentially exposing confidential information. There is no impact on integrity or availability reported. The confidentiality impact is high.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix information is currently provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local access to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to file access via symbolic links.
