Description

The npm package @kl-starfish/test-01 version 2.0.0 contains malicious code that can fully compromise any computer on which it is installed or run. The compromise includes potential unauthorized access to all secrets and keys stored on the affected system. Technical Analysis

The npm package @kl-starfish/test-01 at version 2.0.0 is identified as containing malicious code that can lead to a full system compromise. Installation or execution of this package may grant an attacker complete control over the affected computer, including access to sensitive credentials and keys. Due to the severity of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package may not remove all malicious artifacts. The advisory recommends immediate secret rotation from a separate secure environment to mitigate ongoing risk.

Potential Impact

Full compromise of any computer with the package installed or running. All secrets and keys stored on the system are at risk and should be considered compromised. The attacker may maintain persistent access beyond removal of the package.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the @kl-starfish/test-01 package version 2.0.0 immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised computer from a different, secure machine. Because full control may have been given to an attacker, assume persistent compromise and take appropriate incident response actions.
