Description

The npm package 'pump-stream-logger' contains malicious code that compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise is severe enough that all secrets and keys stored on the affected system should be rotated immediately from a different, trusted computer. Technical Analysis

The 'pump-stream-logger' npm package is identified as containing malicious code that fully compromises affected systems. Installation or execution of this package results in a complete security breach, potentially allowing attackers to control the system and access sensitive information such as secrets and keys. Due to the nature of the compromise, simple removal of the package is insufficient to restore system integrity.

Potential Impact

Any system with the 'pump-stream-logger' package installed or running is considered fully compromised. Attackers may have obtained full control over the system, risking exposure and theft of all stored secrets and keys. This level of compromise can lead to extensive data breaches and unauthorized access to other connected systems or services.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the 'pump-stream-logger' package immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys from a separate, uncompromised computer. Because the system may be fully controlled by an attacker, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning the affected system to ensure complete removal of malicious components.
