0
Critical
Published: 06/30/2026 (06/30/2026, 14:10:12 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: terminal-prettier

Description

The terminal-prettier npm package contains malicious code that fully compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise is severe enough that all secrets and keys stored on the affected system should be rotated immediately from a different, trusted machine. Simply removing the package does not guarantee removal of all malicious software introduced by it, as the attacker may have gained full control of the system.

Technical Analysis

The terminal-prettier package in the npm ecosystem is identified as containing malicious code that compromises the host system completely. Installation or execution of this package results in a full compromise, potentially allowing attackers to access all stored secrets and keys. Due to the extent of the compromise, remediation requires secret/key rotation from a separate trusted environment, and removal of the package alone is insufficient to ensure system integrity. No CVSS score or detailed technical exploit information is provided.

Potential Impact

Full system compromise on any computer with the terminal-prettier package installed or running. All stored secrets and keys on the compromised system are at risk and must be rotated. The attacker may maintain persistent access beyond the presence of the malicious package itself.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the terminal-prettier package immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys from a different, uncompromised computer. Because the system may be fully compromised, consider rebuilding or restoring the system from a known good backup to ensure removal of all malicious components.
