Published: 07/06/2026 (07/06/2026, 18:53:08 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: elevate-log

Description

The elevate-log npm package version 2.0.5 contains malicious code that can fully compromise any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise may allow an attacker to gain full control over the affected system. Removal of the package does not guarantee elimination of all malicious software introduced. Immediate rotation of all secrets and keys stored on the affected computer is strongly advised, using a separate, uncompromised device.

Technical Analysis

The elevate-log package version 2.0.5 distributed via npm includes malicious code that results in a full system compromise upon installation or execution. This malicious package can lead to unauthorized control over the affected computer, risking exposure of all stored secrets and keys. Due to the depth of compromise, simply uninstalling the package may not remove all malicious artifacts. The advisory strongly recommends rotating all credentials from a different, secure machine to mitigate ongoing risk.

Potential Impact

Full compromise of any computer with elevate-log version 2.0.5 installed or running. Potential exposure and theft of all secrets and keys stored on the system. Persistence of malicious software beyond package removal is likely, indicating a deep system compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the elevate-log package version 2.0.5 immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised computer using a separate, secure device. Because full system compromise is possible, consider a full system rebuild or forensic analysis to ensure removal of all malicious components. No official patch or fix is indicated; the package itself is malicious.
