Description

The styled-text-logger npm package version 1.3.1 contains malicious code that fully compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. Technical Analysis

The styled-text-logger package version 1.3.1 is identified as containing malicious code that grants full control of the affected computer to an outside entity. This results in a complete system compromise, including potential exposure of stored secrets and keys. Due to the nature of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package may not remove all malicious artifacts. The advisory recommends immediate rotation of all secrets and keys from a different, uncompromised machine to mitigate ongoing risk.

Potential Impact

Full system compromise on any computer with styled-text-logger version 1.3.1 installed or running. All stored secrets and keys on the compromised system are at risk of exposure. The attacker may maintain persistent access even after package removal.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the styled-text-logger package version 1.3.1 immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys from a separate, secure computer to prevent unauthorized access. Because the system may remain compromised beyond package removal, consider a full system audit and remediation. Patch status is not applicable as this is a malicious package rather than a vulnerability with a fix.
