0
Critical
Published: 07/07/2026 (07/07/2026, 16:16:40 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: vps-adapter-core

Description

The vps-adapter-core npm package contains malicious code that compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. This compromise is severe enough that all secrets and keys stored on the affected system should be rotated immediately from a different, trusted computer. Removing the package alone may not fully eliminate the malicious presence, as the attacker may have established persistent control over the system.

Technical Analysis

The vps-adapter-core package in the npm ecosystem is identified as containing malicious code. Installation or execution of this package results in a full compromise of the host computer. Due to the nature of the compromise, attackers may have gained extensive control, potentially exfiltrating secrets and keys. The advisory strongly recommends rotating all credentials from a separate, secure environment. There is no indication of an official patch or remediation other than removal of the package, which may not be sufficient to restore system integrity.

Potential Impact

Complete system compromise on any computer with the package installed or running. Potential exposure and theft of all stored secrets and keys. Persistent malicious presence may remain even after package removal, risking ongoing unauthorized access.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the vps-adapter-core package immediately. Rotate all secrets, keys, and credentials from a different, uncompromised computer. Because the system may be fully compromised, consider rebuilding or restoring the system from a known good backup. No official patch or fix is available; remediation relies on removal and credential rotation.
