Description

The ts-await package on npm contains malicious code that compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. Technical Analysis

The ts-await npm package has been identified as containing malicious code that compromises the host system. Installation or execution of this package results in a full compromise of the affected computer, potentially exposing all stored secrets and keys. Due to the severity of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package is insufficient to ensure system integrity, as additional malicious software may persist. The advisory recommends immediate secret rotation from a different, uncompromised device and removal of the package.

Potential Impact

Any system with the ts-await package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on the system are at risk and must be rotated immediately from a secure environment. The compromise may allow an attacker full control over the system, and residual malicious software may remain even after package removal.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the ts-await package immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised system from a different, secure computer. Because the system may remain compromised even after package removal, consider rebuilding or restoring the system from a known good backup to ensure full remediation.
