Description

The npm package 'awesome-cli-logger' versions 1.0.0 and 1.2.0 contain malicious code. Technical Analysis

The 'awesome-cli-logger' npm package versions 1.0.0 and 1.2.0 have been identified as containing malicious code that compromises the host system. Installation or execution of this package can lead to full system compromise, allowing an attacker to gain control over the affected computer. Due to the severity of the compromise, secrets and keys stored on the system should be rotated from a separate, uncompromised device. Simply uninstalling the package is insufficient to ensure complete remediation.

Potential Impact

Systems with the affected versions of 'awesome-cli-logger' installed are fully compromised, potentially allowing attackers to access all secrets and keys stored on the machine. This represents a critical security risk as attackers may maintain persistent access even after package removal.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the 'awesome-cli-logger' package immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys from a different, secure computer to prevent unauthorized access. Because full system compromise is possible, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning the affected system to ensure all malicious components are eradicated. No official patch or fix is indicated; remediation relies on removal and secret rotation.
