Description

The npm package dinotech-auth-utils contains malicious code that fully compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise allows an outside entity potential full control over the system. Removal of the package alone does not guarantee elimination of all malicious software introduced. Immediate rotation of all secrets and keys stored on the affected computer from a different, clean machine is strongly advised.

Technical Analysis

The dinotech-auth-utils npm package versions 10.0.0, 10.0.5, 10.0.6, 10.0.8, 10.1.0, 10.1.1, and 99.9.9 contain malicious code that compromises any computer running or having installed these versions. The compromise is severe enough to consider the system fully controlled by an attacker, necessitating secret and key rotation from a separate device. Removal of the package is recommended but may not fully remove all malicious components introduced by the package.

Potential Impact

Systems with the affected versions of dinotech-auth-utils installed or running are considered fully compromised. Attackers may have gained full control, putting all stored secrets and keys at risk. This can lead to unauthorized access, data theft, and persistent malicious presence on the system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the dinotech-auth-utils package immediately from affected systems. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised computer from a different, secure machine. Because full control may have been given to an attacker, further forensic analysis and remediation may be necessary to ensure complete removal of malicious software.
