A fallback covert channel queries TXT records at c.<domain> and N.<domain> under sdk.dl.wel1.ru / ext.dl.wel1.ru / pkg.dl.wel1.ru / net.dl.wel1.ru, concatenates the chunks and base64-decodes them into the same executable payload. Requiring or installing the package results in execution of attacker-controlled native code on the installer host. ## Source: ghsa-malware (14cb62d811a687032f1374c803415b84f5bba3715c074381da656dda3e4ce1b0) Any computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.

Technical Analysis

The npm package dolyame-boxy-independent-bnpl-breadcrumbs version 35.1.4 includes a malicious module that unconditionally requires an initialization script at load time. This script selects a platform-specific path and downloads an opaque native binary over HTTPS from a set of dynamically constructed Cloudflare Workers subdomains to evade detection. The binary is saved to a temporary directory with disguised naming, permissioned for execution, and then executed detached via shell commands. Additionally, a fallback covert channel uses DNS TXT record queries to reconstruct and decode the executable payload. Installing or requiring this package results in execution of attacker-controlled native code on the host system.

Potential Impact

Installation or requiring of the affected package version leads to execution of arbitrary native code controlled by an attacker on the host system. This can compromise the host environment, potentially allowing full system compromise, data theft, or further malware deployment. The malicious payload is delivered stealthily via dynamically generated URLs and DNS covert channels, complicating detection.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation is currently documented. Users should avoid installing or requiring version 35.1.4 of the dolyame-boxy-independent-bnpl-breadcrumbs package. Verify package integrity and source before installation. Monitor for updates or advisories from the package maintainers or npm registry. Since this is a malicious package, removal and replacement with a trusted alternative is recommended.
