Description

The npm package 'real-browser-plus' contains malicious code that compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise is severe enough that all secrets and keys stored on the affected machine should be rotated immediately from a different, uncompromised device. Removing the package alone does not guarantee removal of all malicious software introduced by it, as full control of the system may have been given to an attacker.

Technical Analysis

The 'real-browser-plus' package in the npm ecosystem has been identified as containing malicious code. Installation or execution of this package results in a full compromise of the affected computer, potentially allowing attackers to control the system and access sensitive information. Due to the nature of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package is insufficient to ensure system integrity, and credential rotation from a separate device is strongly advised.

Potential Impact

Full system compromise on any computer with the package installed or running. All secrets and keys stored on the compromised machine are at risk and should be rotated immediately. There is no assurance that removing the package will eliminate all malicious components, indicating persistent or deep system infection.

Defensive Guidance

Remove the 'real-browser-plus' package immediately from affected systems. Rotate all secrets and keys from a separate, uncompromised device. Due to the potential for persistent compromise, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning the affected system to ensure removal of all malicious software.
