Description

The npm package 'sk-lib-enc' contains malicious code that fully compromises any computer on which it is installed or running. The compromise includes potential unauthorized access to all secrets and keys stored on the affected system. Removal of the package does not guarantee elimination of all malicious software introduced by it. Immediate rotation of all secrets and keys from a different, uncompromised computer is strongly recommended.

Technical Analysis

The 'sk-lib-enc' npm package is identified as malicious software. Installation or execution of this package results in a full compromise of the host computer, potentially exposing all stored secrets and cryptographic keys. Due to the nature of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package may not remove all malicious components or backdoors introduced. The advisory recommends treating any system with this package as fully compromised and taking immediate remediation steps to rotate secrets from a secure environment.

Potential Impact

Full system compromise on any computer with the 'sk-lib-enc' package installed or running. All secrets and keys stored on the system are at risk of exposure or theft. The malicious code may have established persistent backdoors or other malware beyond the package itself, making complete remediation difficult without a full system rebuild.

Defensive Guidance

Remove the 'sk-lib-enc' package immediately from all affected systems. Rotate all secrets and cryptographic keys from a different, uncompromised computer. Because full control of the system may have been given to an attacker, consider the system fully compromised and perform a full forensic analysis and system rebuild as needed. No official patch or fix is available; remediation relies on removal and secret rotation.
