Description

--- _-= Per source details. Obfuscation of a top-level module is suspicious because it conceals the actual runtime behavior from reviewers; it is also a common shape for legitimate-but-protected commercial code. Without a deobfuscated trace of the control flow, intent cannot be confirmed — there is no direct evidence in the available signals of network exfiltration, credential access, install-time fetch-and-execute, or other concrete installer-harm mechanisms. Routing to human review so a reviewer can deobfuscate src/index.js and determine whether the hidden code performs exfiltration, dropper, or silent-relay behavior versus benign protected logic. ## Source: ghsa-malware (f7343cf823749e49d695e0bb3994098d181d26e6005e2c2dc2dadc45cae2ee33) Any computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.

Technical Analysis

The twcompose-utils npm package versions 0.7.6 and 0.7.7 have been identified as containing malicious code. Installation or execution of these versions results in full compromise of the affected system, potentially allowing an attacker complete control. Due to the severity of the compromise, all secrets and keys stored on the system should be rotated immediately from a secure environment. Removal of the package alone is insufficient to ensure system integrity, as additional malicious components may persist.

Potential Impact

Systems with twcompose-utils versions 0.7.6 or 0.7.7 installed or running are fully compromised. Attackers may have gained complete control over the system, risking exposure and theft of all stored secrets and keys. The compromise extends beyond the package itself, as malicious software introduced may remain even after package removal.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the twcompose-utils package versions 0.7.6 and 0.7.7 immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys from a different, uncompromised computer. Conduct a thorough investigation and remediation of the affected system, as removal of the package alone does not guarantee elimination of all malicious software.
