Technical Analysis

The makeWASocket() function in lib/Socket/index.js of the @zeronexcode/baileys package (version 7.0.0-zeronex.8) includes malicious code that forces the user's WhatsApp account to follow a specific hardcoded channel upon connection establishment. This action is performed automatically and lacks an option for the user to opt out or disable it.

Potential Impact

Users of the affected package version have their WhatsApp accounts automatically subscribed to a specific channel without their consent. This could lead to unwanted content delivery or privacy concerns. There is no information about further exploitation or additional malicious actions beyond the forced subscription.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or remediation information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Users should avoid using the affected version (=7.0.0-zeronex.8) of the @zeronexcode/baileys package until an official fix or guidance is available.
