Description

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 version 26H2 will be the next feature update and that devices running Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 will be able to upgrade using a small enablement package. [...]

Impact

The update introduces new features and changes the OS build number but does not indicate any security vulnerabilities or exploits. The shared servicing branch model reduces update size and complexity for supported versions, improving upgrade efficiency. There are no known exploits in the wild related to this update. Systems running versions older than 24H2 will require a full update, which involves a larger download and potentially more disruption.

Defensive guidance

No security vulnerability or exploit is described that requires mitigation. The update process uses an enablement package for supported versions, which is the official and recommended upgrade path. Organizations should plan to upgrade devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 using the enablement package when it becomes generally available. Devices on older versions should prepare for the full update. No additional mitigation actions are necessary based on the provided information.
