Microsoft Teams, Outlook fail to launch on ARM-based Windows PCs

Following the August 2026 Patch Tuesday updates (starting with KB5121003), Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook for Windows fail to launch or crash on ARM-based Windows devices such as Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 running Windows 11 24H2 or later. The issue primarily affects new or freshly imaged PCs that have not yet applied Microsoft Store updates. Microsoft recommends updating the Auto Super Resolution Package to version 1.0.19.0 or later as a temporary workaround. A permanent fix is in development and will be delivered via a future Windows update. Classic Outlook and other Office applications are not affected.

Users of ARM-based Windows devices running Windows 11 24H2 or later may experience inability to launch or unexpected closure of Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook applications after applying August 2026 security updates. This disrupts productivity for affected users but does not indicate a security compromise or exploit. Other Office applications and classic Outlook remain unaffected.

Microsoft advises affected users to update the Auto Super Resolution Package via the Microsoft Store to version 1.0.19.0 or later as a temporary workaround. Users should open the Microsoft Store, navigate to Downloads, check for updates, and install the updated package. Microsoft is actively working on a permanent fix to be released in a future Windows update. No other immediate actions are required.
