AI-suggested
Upgrade the MCP Python SDK to version 3.0.3 or later, where the redirect behavior is restricted to same-origin or secure upgrades only, and cross-origin redirects cause request failures. No code changes are needed for the upgrade. Until upgrading, users should supply their own HTTP client with redirect following disabled (follow_redirects=False) to prevent automatic cross-origin redirects. If a client may have already followed a redirect to an untrusted host, rotate any credentials that were sent. Avoid relying on redirects to different hosts; instead, configure the endpoint URL directly to the final target. The vendor provides an unsupported workaround to restore old behavior by subclassing the HTTP client to forcibly follow all redirects, but this is not recommended due to security risks.
Description
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) Python SDK versions 1.8.0 through 1.29.1 and 2.0.0 through 2.1.1 have a vulnerability where HTTP client transports follow cross-origin redirects and send custom headers and, on 307/308 redirects, the request body to the redirected host. This can expose sensitive headers like X-API-Key if an attacker can cause a trusted endpoint to redirect to a malicious host. The Authorization bearer header is not exposed due to HTTP library protections. The issue is fixed in MCP SDK versions 3.0.3 and later.
