Product: openam

Description

Open Access Management (OpenAM) versions prior to 16.1.1 contain a vulnerability in the IdentityResourceV1.queryCollection() method where the _queryId parameter is passed without proper escaping. This allows an authenticated attacker to inject LDAP metacharacters, leading to user enumeration and blind LDAP injection. The issue is resolved in version 16.1.1.

Technical Analysis

OpenAM before version 16.1.1 improperly handles the _queryId parameter in the IdentityResourceV1.queryCollection() API endpoint. The parameter is passed to CrestQuery with escapeQueryId disabled, bypassing protections introduced for CVE-2021-29156. The unescaped parameter is then concatenated into an LDAP filter in DJLDAPv3Repo.getFilter(), enabling an authenticated attacker to inject LDAP metacharacters. This injection can be used for user enumeration and blind LDAP injection attacks. The vulnerability is resolved in OpenAM version 16.1.1.

Potential Impact

An authenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability to perform LDAP injection attacks, potentially enumerating users and conducting blind LDAP injection. This could lead to unauthorized information disclosure about user accounts. There is no indication of privilege escalation or remote code execution from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenAM to version 16.1.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation steps are indicated or required according to the provided information.
