Description
Open WebUI versions from 0.6.42 up to but not including 0.11.4 contain a vulnerability where authenticated users can cause uncontrolled resource consumption. By supplying compressed remote image URLs in chat messages, attackers can trigger unbounded decompression of gzip-encoded responses, exhausting server memory and causing denial of service.

Technical Analysis
The Open WebUI software between versions 0.6.42 and before 0.11.4 has an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability (CWE-400). Authenticated users can supply compressed remote image URLs in chat messages. The function get_image_base64_from_url decompresses gzip-encoded responses without bounds, leading to excessive memory usage and denial of service for all users.
Potential Impact
This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers to exhaust server memory resources by leveraging unbounded decompression of compressed image data, resulting in denial of service (DoS) that affects availability for all users of the affected Open WebUI instance.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict or monitor the use of compressed remote image URLs in chat messages by authenticated users to reduce risk.
