Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

A vulnerability in openclaw-cli versions before 2026.4.14 allows an authenticated gateway client with config read access to bypass redaction and obtain unredacted secrets via sourceConfig and runtimeConfig aliases. These secrets include provider API keys, gateway authentication material, and channel credentials. The issue was fixed in version 2026.4.14 by explicitly overwriting these alias fields with redacted copies.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-43528 describes a redaction bypass vulnerability in the openclaw-cli package prior to version 2026.4.14. Authenticated clients with configuration read access could exploit alias fields sourceConfig and runtimeConfig to access unredacted sensitive information that should have been redacted, such as API keys and authentication credentials. The fix involved ensuring these alias fields are overwritten with properly redacted copies, consistent with other configuration fields. The patch was included starting with openclaw version 2026.4.14.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated access and config read permissions could retrieve sensitive secrets that should have been redacted, including provider API keys, gateway authentication materials, and channel credentials. This exposure could lead to unauthorized access or misuse of these secrets, potentially compromising the security of the gateway and associated services.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade openclaw-cli to version 2026.4.14 or later, where the vulnerability has been fixed. The fix ensures that sourceConfig and runtimeConfig alias fields are properly redacted. No additional mitigation is required once the upgrade is applied.
