Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

A vulnerability in the openclaw CLI tool allowed the screen_record feature's output path (outPath) to bypass the workspace-only filesystem guard. This flaw permitted an authorized tool call to write files outside the intended workspace boundary. The issue affects openclaw versions prior to 2026.4.10 and was fixed in version 2026.4.10 and later.

Technical Analysis

The openclaw CLI's screen_record functionality did not properly enforce the workspace-only filesystem guard on the outPath parameter. This allowed an authorized invocation of the screen recording tool to write output files outside the designated workspace directory, potentially violating filesystem boundaries. The fix, implemented in pull request #63551 and commit 635bb35b68d8faa5bfa2fda35feadd315122748a, ensures that the workspace-root guard is applied to all node tool outPath handling, including screen recording paths. The vulnerability affects openclaw versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.4.10 and is resolved in versions >=2026.4.10.

Potential Impact

An authorized user or process invoking the screen_record tool could write files outside the intended workspace directory, potentially leading to unauthorized file writes beyond the workspace boundary. There is no indication of privilege escalation or remote exploitation without authorization. The impact is limited to bypassing filesystem restrictions for authorized tool calls.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade openclaw to version 2026.4.10 or later. The fix is included starting with version 2026.4.10, and the latest release 2026.4.14 also contains the patch. Applying this update ensures the workspace-only filesystem guard is properly enforced on screen_record outPath handling.
