Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Workspace dotenv files cannot override connector endpoint hosts (CVE-2026-45003)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.4.21 allow workspace dotenv files to override connector endpoint hosts for services like Matrix, Mattermost, IRC, or Synology. This could redirect runtime traffic away from the operator-configured endpoints. The issue is fixed in version 2026.4.22 by blocking these endpoint variables in workspace dotenv files while keeping trusted global dotenv loading separate.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI (CVE-2026-45003) involves workspace dotenv files being able to override connector endpoint hosts for various connectors such as Matrix, Mattermost, IRC, and Synology. This allows redirection of runtime traffic away from the intended operator-configured endpoints. The fix, included in version 2026.4.22, blocks these endpoint variables from being set via workspace dotenv files, including per-account Matrix homeserver suffixes and generic base-url/API-host overrides. The fix commit is 0623079e98abf7202591f1b04a89755eb7ec9272, and the patched version is publicly available on npm.

Potential Impact

An attacker or user with control over workspace dotenv files could redirect connector traffic to unintended hosts, potentially bypassing operator configurations. This could lead to misrouting of sensitive data or disruption of expected connector behavior. There is no indication of privilege escalation or direct code execution from this vulnerability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.4.22 or later, which includes the fix that blocks workspace dotenv files from overriding connector endpoint hosts. No additional action is required as the fix is officially released and verified.
