Technical Analysis

OpenEMR versions prior to 7.0.4 are vulnerable to an arbitrary file read flaw (CVE-2026-24849) that permits unauthorized reading of files on the server. The vulnerability is confirmed on the platform stack Ubuntu 22.04, PHP 8.1, and Apache 2.4. Exploit code has been published in Python, indicating the vulnerability is exploitable. The vendor project page is https://www.open-emr.org, but no direct patch or advisory link is provided in the data. The affected product version is OpenEMR 7.0.2 and earlier.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to read arbitrary files on the server hosting OpenEMR, potentially exposing sensitive configuration files, credentials, or patient data. This can lead to information disclosure but does not directly indicate code execution or system compromise from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenEMR to version 7.0.4 or later, as versions prior to 7.0.4 are affected. Since no official patch link or advisory is provided, verify the vendor site for the latest updates and apply official fixes when available. Until patched, restrict access to the OpenEMR server and monitor for suspicious activity. Patch status is not yet confirmed by vendor advisory; check https://www.open-emr.org for current remediation guidance.
