Description

OpenRemote versions before 1.26.2 have an authentication bypass vulnerability in the console registration API. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to update existing console assets by using a known asset identifier. Attackers can overwrite push notification tokens and console metadata without any authentication or ownership checks, potentially redirecting notifications or preventing legitimate consoles from receiving them.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenRemote prior to version 1.26.2 involves an authentication bypass in the console registration API. Unauthenticated attackers who know an asset identifier can update console assets, including push notification tokens and metadata, without validation of ownership or authentication. This can lead to unauthorized redirection or denial of push notifications to legitimate consoles. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key). No patch information is provided in the data.

Potential Impact

Attackers can manipulate console assets without authentication, enabling them to redirect push notifications or deny delivery to legitimate consoles. This compromises the integrity and availability of console notifications, potentially disrupting normal operations that rely on these notifications.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or patch information is provided, users should monitor vendor communications for updates and consider restricting access to the console registration API to trusted networks or users as a temporary measure.
