Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-85955 affects Progress MarkLogic Server 12.x releases prior to 12.1.0 and 11.x releases prior to 11.3.7. The vulnerability permits a remote attacker who already has query-execution access to bypass privilege restrictions and invoke an XQuery evaluation function without the required evaluation privilege. This can result in execution of arbitrary code on the server with elevated permissions, posing a critical security risk.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with limited query-execution privileges to escalate their permissions and execute arbitrary server-side code, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Progress MarkLogic Server versions 12.1.0 and 11.3.7. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided in the available data.
