Rabbitmq server: RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. (CVE-2026-67229)
Description
CVE-2026-67229 affects RabbitMQ server versions prior to 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0. An administrator importing a crafted definitions file with a vhost entry containing approximately one million unique metadata keys can exhaust the Erlang atom table, causing the node to crash. This vulnerability arises from the use of an unsafe function that converts binary keys to atoms during vhost metadata processing. The issue requires administrator privileges to exploit and is fixed in the specified versions.

Technical Analysis
RabbitMQ versions before 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0 use the unsafe variant of rabbit_data_coercion:atomize_keys/1, which calls binary_to_atom on vhost metadata keys during add_vhost/2 calls. This can lead to exhaustion of the Erlang atom table when importing a crafted definitions file with about one million unique metadata keys, causing a node crash. Exploitation requires administrator privileges. The vulnerability is addressed in the listed fixed versions.
Potential Impact
An attacker with administrator privileges can cause a denial of service by crashing the RabbitMQ node through exhaustion of the Erlang atom table during import of a malicious definitions file. This disrupts availability of the messaging service. There is no indication of privilege escalation or data confidentiality impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
This vulnerability is fixed in RabbitMQ versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0. Administrators should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the issue. Since exploitation requires administrator privileges, restricting administrative access also reduces risk. No other mitigations are specified.
