Red Hat has released an updated bubblewrap package (version 0.4.0-3.el8_6) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 that fixes this vulnerability. Users should apply this official security update promptly. For detailed update instructions, refer to Red Hat's advisory and article at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the update.
Description
A security vulnerability in bubblewrap, a core execution engine for unprivileged containers, allows symlink traversal via /oldroot, enabling writes outside the sandbox during setup. This issue affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 versions using bubblewrap as a setuid binary on kernels without user namespaces. Red Hat has issued an important security update to address this flaw.
