Red Hat has released an updated fence-agents package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and its Extended Update Support versions that addresses this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update as described in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2026:53365) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A denial of service vulnerability (CVE-2026-59886) exists in the pyasn1 library used by the fence-agents packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. The flaw involves crafted ASN.1 REAL values that can cause service disruption. Fence-agents manage remote power control for cluster nodes, allowing failed nodes to be forcibly restarted or removed. This update addresses the vulnerability to prevent denial of service conditions.
