Red Hat has released updated fence-agents packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 that address this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update as detailed in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2026:48605) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A denial of service vulnerability (CVE-2026-59939) exists in the httplib2 component used by the fence-agents packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8. The flaw involves unbounded decompression of HTTP response bodies, which can be exploited to cause a denial of service. Fence-agents are scripts used for remote power management in cluster environments to forcibly restart and remove failed or unreachable nodes. Red Hat has issued a security update to address this issue.
