What to do

AI-suggested

Implement strict input validation to block attempts to access the prototype chain before passing property paths to _.unset and _.omit functions. Specifically, block strings such as __proto__, constructor, and prototype. Monitor Red Hat advisories for updates.

Description

A prototype pollution vulnerability exists in Lodash's _.unset and _.omit functions, allowing attackers controlling property paths to delete methods from global prototypes. This deletion can cause denial of service by removing essential functionalities. The issue affects applications that use these functions with user-controlled input for property paths. Red Hat Satellite includes Red Hat Lightspeed, which uses Lodash in the pcs-web-ui component. However, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 no longer includes this component and is not affected. Mitigation involves strict input validation to block prototype chain access. No fix is currently available, and the vulnerability is rated with important severity due to denial of service impact.
