AI-suggested
Red Hat has released security updates that fix these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the provided glibc updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and related products as detailed in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2024:3339. After applying the update, all services linked to the glibc library must be restarted or the system rebooted for the fixes to take effect. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patches and restarting services.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been identified and fixed in the GNU C Library (glibc) packages used by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. These include an out-of-bounds write in iconv conversion (CVE-2024-2961), a stack-based buffer overflow in the netgroup cache (CVE-2024-33599), null pointer dereferences after failed netgroup cache insertion (CVE-2024-33600), netgroup cache termination on memory allocation failure (CVE-2024-33601), and incorrect assumptions about NSS callback string usage (CVE-2024-33602). These vulnerabilities affect core system libraries essential for Linux system functionality. Red Hat has issued security updates addressing these issues. Systems must apply the updates and restart affected services or reboot to ensure remediation.
