Red Hat has released updated libkcapi packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 that address these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the security update as described in Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:67266 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been identified in libkcapi, a library that provides user-space access to the Linux kernel crypto API. The issues include IV reuse causing cipher state resets across chunk boundaries (CVE-2026-71225), memory corruption via uncanceled asynchronous I/O requests on error (CVE-2026-71226), and an infinite loop denial of service due to unhandled timeout returns in asynchronous I/O processing (CVE-2026-71227). These vulnerabilities affect Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 across various architectures. Red Hat has released security updates addressing these issues.
