AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated MRTG packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 and its variants that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply the MRTG update as described in Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:92051 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A local privilege escalation vulnerability exists in the Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) daemon due to symlink-following chown operations on the PID file path. This flaw allows a local attacker to manipulate the PID file path to escalate privileges. Red Hat has issued a security update addressing this issue in MRTG for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 variants.
