Red Hat has released an official update for nginx in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 that addresses this vulnerability. Users should apply the provided update as detailed in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2026:36331) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2026-42055) in nginx allows for potential arbitrary code execution or denial of service via crafted HTTP/2 headers. This security issue affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and related distributions. An update addressing this vulnerability is available from Red Hat. Additionally, a fix for an "HTTP/2 bomb" issue that breaks module ABI and causes crashes is included in the update.
