Description

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's cloud computing Kubernetes application platform solution designed for on-premise or private cloud deployments. This advisory contains the container images for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.12.80. See the following advisory for the RPM packages for this release: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2025:15307 Space precludes documenting all of the container images in this advisory. See the following Release Notes documentation, which will be updated shortly for this release, for details about these changes: https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.12/html/release_notes Security Fix(es): * golang.org/x/net/html: Non-linear parsing of case-insensitive content in golang.org/x/net/html (CVE-2024-45338) * golang-jwt/jwt: jwt-go allows excessive memory allocation during header parsing (CVE-2025-30204) * github.com/golang/glog: Vulnerability when creating log files in github.com/golang/glog (CVE-2024-45339) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. All OpenShift Container Platform 4.12 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images when they are available in the appropriate release channel. To check for available updates, use the OpenShift CLI (oc) or web console. Instructions for upgrading a cluster are available at https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.12/html-single/updating_clusters/index#updating-cluster-within-minor.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-45338 is a vulnerability in the golang.org/x/net/html package used by Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. The flaw allows an attacker to craft input that causes the HTML parsing functions to process data non-linearly relative to input length, resulting in significant delays and excessive resource consumption (CPU and memory). This can lead to denial of service by exhausting system resources. Red Hat has released OpenShift Container Platform 4.12.80 containing updated container images and packages that fix this vulnerability. The advisory also addresses other vulnerabilities in golang-jwt/jwt and github.com/golang/glog. The vulnerability is rated as Important by Red Hat with a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5 (availability impact high, no confidentiality or integrity impact).

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause denial of service by sending specially crafted input that triggers non-linear parsing in the vulnerable HTML parsing library, leading to resource exhaustion (CPU and memory). This affects availability of the affected OpenShift Container Platform deployments. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform version 4.12.80. Users should upgrade to this version using the OpenShift CLI or web console as per Red Hat's documented upgrade instructions. The vendor manages remediation for this on-premise/private cloud platform via updated container images and RPM packages. No additional mitigations are specified beyond applying the official update.
