AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated ibu container images for OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 that address this vulnerability. Users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images following Red Hat's documented asynchronous errata update procedures. No other mitigations or workarounds are specified. The advisory does not indicate that the vulnerability is already mitigated or that no action is required.

Description

A vulnerability in gRPC-Go used by Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 can cause a denial of service. Specifically, servers created with xds.NewGRPCServer() may crash when receiving malformed RPC requests missing required :authority or Host headers. This triggers an index-out-of-bounds panic, terminating the server process. The issue affects deployments using xDS-managed gRPC servers and can be exploited by unauthenticated remote clients in some cases. Standard gRPC servers without xDS routing are not vulnerable. Environments enforcing mutual TLS require authentication before the vulnerable stage, limiting exploitation to authenticated peers. Red Hat advises upgrading to updated ibu container images for OpenShift 4.22 to address this issue.
